Have you ever had a job when your work culture is no longer satisfying, or unpleasant? Maybe the church you had been attending doesn’t feel like home anymore, you can’t find your place there, or the teaching is not challenging you? Or that relationship that seems to be dry and not going anywhere? It may seem like you have been going through the motions of showing up and doing what is expected of you despite feeling like it is no longer a good fit. Going through the motions out of guilt can leave you empty because you’re not receiving the affirmation we all need. As well, forcing a situation because you want it so badly can create frustration and resentment when it’s not turning out as you hoped. You might as well be on the hamster wheel.
When you no longer feel a sense of belonging, lack joy, satisfaction, or not growing towards a greater maturity or in your giftings/skills, you might want to consider that God is preparing you for a new season, mantel, or assignment. That uncomfortable distancing could very well be God separating you from the thing that is holding you back so you can step forward into the next thing.
If you find yourself experiencing these feelings, now would be a good time to take a look inward and reflect on some questions. Dedicate this time in prayer and ask God to confirm some specifics for you.
- Do I harbor resentment towards anyone?
- Have I been honest with God about my feelings?
- Do I have unconfessed sin?
- Have I done all that I can to improve this situation?
- Is there another opportunity I really want to seek out?
- What am I afraid of?
- Can I accept that my time here is done?
Remember, God values you. He has a plan for your future that includes your growth, joy, and prosperity.
Romans 8:28 NIV, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."
